Sinai Assemblies of God
Location: Kensington, Philadelphia, PA
Client: Sinai Assemblies of God, Philadelphia
Completion Date: 2010
Project Type: Institutional
Onion Flats was tasked with a design for the renovation of a vacant warehouse in the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia into the new home for the Sinai Assemblies of God Church. The building was to include a sanctuary to accommodate up to 500 parishioners as well as classrooms, administrative offices, and an outdoor courtyard. Inspired by the quality of the existing space, OFA chose to keep the new elements as simple as possible. The translucent wall separating the sanctuary from the hall & classrooms provided both borrowed light from the sanctuary during the day and glowed in the evening. The existing skylights that had been roofed over would be restored as clerestory roof monitors to filter ambient light into the main worship space.
